In the last few weeks, our volunteers and the staff of Rewilding Apennines have installed 11 electric fences in the Marsican bear’s extent of occurrence outside protected areas, but equally crucial for its expansion, such as Valle Roveto, Marsica and Alto Molise.
A fence was also built in Gioia dei Marsi, thanks to an agreement with the Municipality, which has adopted these damage prevention measures from the funds of the LR Abruzzo 15/2016, while the two associations have provided the manpower and skills necessary for their installation. This collaboration, similar to the one in progress with the Molise Region, is proving to be particularly virtuous, bringing citizens closer to the institutions and demonstrating that coexistence with the bear is possible when everyone wants it.
The attached thank-you email we received from a beneficiary shows that the path taken is the right one.
