Yesterday we went to Roccaraso, which has now become famous for the presence of the bear Juan Carrito. We have distributed over 1,500 flyers and posters in bars, shops, hotels, restaurants, Christmas markets, schools and information centres.
The information content was created together with the staff of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park, the Maiella National Park and the Carabinieri for Biodiversity to whom our thanks go.
It reminds and explain how to behave when a bear is in town, and it was considered urgent especially in view of the arrival of winter tourists.
About ten days ago, Juan Carrito entered one of the town’s patisseries, eating cakes and biscuits. We met the owner to let him tell us his experience and above all to understand how the population is reacting to these events.
Given the criticality of the situation, we also spoke to the local Carabinieri and the mayor.
We hope that residents and tourists will follow the instructions in the information material, not feeding the bear in any way. Only in this way can we do good to Juan Carrito and hope that he can go into hibernation!
