In response to growing concerns for the safety of Amarena’s orphaned cubs, the Abruzzo, Lazio, and Molise National Park requested a temporary hunting stop in areas frequented by the cubs.
This request was made to the competent offices of the Abruzzo Region and the Hunting Club of Avezzano. Following an appeal from the Park, Emanuele Imprudente, Vice President of the Regional Council and Councillor for Agriculture, Hunting, Parks, and Reserves, declared the suspension of wild boar hunting until 30th of November in specific delimited areas in the municipalities of Pescina, Gioia dei Marsi, and Lecce dei Marsi.
This measure aims to mitigate risks for the young bears during their preparation for hibernation. The initiative received support from Salviamo l’Orso and several environmental associations, emphasizing the need to protect wildlife and promote peaceful coexistence between fauna and human activities. The temporary suspension of hunting represents a significant step in ensuring bear safety and preserving the area’s biodiversity.
