August was a harvest month for Salviamo l’Orso and Rewilding Apennines.
Thanks to the work of our volunteers, we collected plums from the garden of the Prati del Lupo B&B in Bisegna to prevent Amarena and the guests of the structure from coming face to face. We thank the owner of the B&B and president of the association Montagna Grande for participating in the initiative and promoting this good practice of coexistence with the Marsican bear and the volunteers for their usual availability.
Moreover, the volunteers of Salviamo l’Orso and Rewilding Apennines and the staff of Monte Genzana Alto Gizio Reserve, promptly collected apples and plumes from a public park in the Municipality of Pettorano Sul Gizio to avoid attracting bears and other wild animals such as wild boars inside the city centre.
This simple and effective action is widely practiced in North America and is one of the good practices of coexistence with the bear envisaged by the LIFE Bear-Smart Corridors project.
