Here the apple time is back…

This precious food resource, quite spread in some valleys of the Monte Genzana Alto Gizio Nature Reserve, derives from a positive rewilding effect as a consequence of the landscape change. The subsistence mountain agriculture, which was abandoned over sixty years ago, has given way to the return of wild species. However, many fruit trees survived and, even more, keep on producing, especially apples.
Thanks to the intense recovery activities of these orchards in the Bear Smart Community Genzana, carried out by the volunteers of Salviamo l’Orso, the staff of Reserve and of Rewilding Apennines, with the initial sponsorship of EOCA, these areas are frequented by some bears that give, as animals at the top of the food chain, the opportunity also to other species to feed. Indeed, as this video shows, the apple tree branch broken by the bear strength allows many other animals to benefit from the same fruits.
