We have good news from Roccaraso municipal administration: the Municipality has installed 3 ecological islands for a better management of urban waste.
We are happy and we acknowledge the efforts to the Mayor of Roccaraso, Francesco Di Donato, to whom we sent an open letter last February, petitioning better waste management. This lack of appropriate waste management systems was among the causes of the continued presence in the village of Juan Carrito and unsightly waste in a village supported by tourism.
Salviamo l’Orso’s contribution to more bear-friendly villages continues as we donated 4 bear-proof bins in July to the Municipality of Ortona dei Marsi.
Now, it is important that residents, but especially tourists, dispose of their waste correct to support the efforts of Municipalities and partner-associations.
There is still a long way to go for the correct management of urban waste in Abruzzo and inland areas, but it is important to start taking the first steps in the awareness that the final result will make our country better, safeguarding the freedom and the lives of bears!
