The Constitutional Court saves the Sirente Velino Regional Park!

29 Novembre 2022 | Non categorizzato

The Constitutional Court declared illegitimate the 2021 law. This law had previously allowed the Regione Abruzzo to cut about 7,000 hectares of territory of great importance for the Marsican bear, griffon vultures, golden eagle, rock partridge and many other species in the Parco Naturale Regionale Sirente Velino.

Salviamo l’Orso, together with associations like LIPU, Pro Natura Abruzzo, Italia Nostra Abruzzo, Mountain Wilderness-Italia, CAI Abruzzo, WWF Abruzzo, Orso & Friends, Associazione Altura, Appennino Ecosistema, Touring Club Italiano, Dalla parte dell’Orso and others, had fought strenuously to prevent the umpteenth reduction of the perimeter of the only regional park in Abruzzo. Thank you to the Constitutional Court for having recalled the principles of biodiversity protection to which the European Union and our country are inspired.

Our association invites the Abruzzo Region, once the Green Region of Europe, to repent and not persevere in the illogical and anachronistic choice of reducing the protected area. Salviamo l’Orso wants to continue collaborating with local authorities and communities to pursue key objectives. This is especially important in the current era of biodiversity decline due to the impact of human activities. Especially in the Sirente Velino Regional Natural Park which has just obtained the European Charter for Sustainable Tourism.
