Before August 15’s holiday, in anticipation of the increase in car flows to the Alto Sangro tourist area, the Salviamo l’Orso volunteers carried out the maintenance and, where necessary, the replacement and extension of road ecology measures (optical and acoustic reflectors) along the SS17 between Pettorano sul Gizio and Rocca Pia and the SS83 Marsicana between Gioia dei Marsi and Opi, pending the interventions that the Life Safe Crossing envisages.
Our volunteers also collected the waste scattered in some lay-bys of the SS17. Despite being an action that has been repeated for years, it could only be partially achieved, given the overwhelming amount of waste that road users without any civic sense and respect for the common good have dumped since the last cleaning, a year ago.
The volunteers also removed food leftovers which, as evidenced by some excrements, attracted wildlife near the road with easily imaginable risks, except for those who continue to persevere in abandoning waste in total disregard for the impact that this can have on the fauna and the natural environment, especially if a few meters from a beautiful river like the Gizio.
The interventions on the SS17 were assisted by the staff of the Monte Genzana Alto Gizio Reserve as part of the best practices provided by the project Bear Smart Community Genzana.
