Zompo Lo Schioppo Monitoring

22 Febbraio 2022 | Non categorizzato

We are happy to share the first results of the monitoring carried out in Zompo Lo Schioppo Regional Nature Reserve and in the SCI in the Municipality of Morino.

This area represents a fundamental passage for the dispersion of wildlife, joining the protected areas of the Abruzzo Lazio and Molise National Park and the Simbruini Regional Park. The results obtained have been made possible by the collaboration between Zompo Lo Schioppo Regional Nature Reserve, ENT dei Monti Ernici cooperative, Rewilding Apennines and Salviamo l’Orso.

This collaboration allowed to extend the study in a wider area, also outside the borders of the reserve, and to begin a systematic monitoring of species. The results confirm the presence of the wildcat and a pair of wolves, which do not appear to have formed a pack in the investigated area.

They also provide us with data on the distribution of these and other species, such as roe deer, wild boar and hare. These are the first valuable pieces of information from a study that we hope will be extended over the long term in order to deepen our knowledge of these territories and to improve their management and conservation.
