In the Central Apennines there is a special figure that works with passion and dedication for the Marsican brown bear conservation, especially in the connection areas amongst parks and reserves. It is the “bear ambassadors” and Rewilding Apennines and Salviamo l’Orso can be proud to have their presence in the territory.
Their support is fundamental, because they work in close contact with the local communities with the aim of strengthening that relation – somehow weakened, somehow forgotten – of the human being with the bear. From the setting up of electric fences to defend livestock and apiaries to the pruning of fruit trees abandoned in the mountains, from the removal of barbed wire in the bear habitat to the monitoring of the signs of presence of the species. Sometimes, they make a bit special actions … the bear ambassadors’ work is essential to build these “coexistence corridors” for the bear’s expansion.
