In recent days, the carcass of a young male wolf was found in the territory of Lecce nei Marsi by the border with Ortucchio. The examination conducted by the veterinary staff of the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park did not detect any trauma and the specimen was apparently in excellent health conditions. The inspection of the area where the carcass was found by the guards of the ALMNP, the Forestry Carabinieri of Lecce nei Marsi and the Anti-poison Dog Unit of Assergi led to the collection of several poisoned baits which, pending further analysis, would suggest that the wolf died of poisoning. This news worries us a lot because it shows that unscrupulous individuals continue to think of resolving conflicts with fauna by a sneak and cowardly weapon such as poison, which poses an indiscriminate threat to particularly protected species such as the Marsican brown bear and the Apennine wolf, but also for pets. We urge citizens to report suspected poisoning and suspect individuals to the authorities.
