NO pizzone II: an event to reiterate our opposition to the project

13 January 2026 | press releases

On Saturday, Jan. 3, the initiative “Bear corridors: from two parks a common path” was held in Colli al Volturno (Isernia), promoted by the NO Pizzone II Coordination. Save the Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise National Park to symbolically unite the territories of the Abruzzo Lazio and Molise National Park and the Matese National Park.

An event attended by many people, all gathered to make a clear demand: to defend the ecological corridors of the Apennines and the future of the Marsican brown bear.

WHY DO WE SAY “NO TO THE CONSTRUCTION OF ENEL PIZZONE II POWER PLANT”?

  • Because it involves miles of large tunnels dug into the rock, huge construction sites and a dense traffic jam of heavy vehicles that would disrupt ecological connections to the Upper Molise and Matese regions, compromising one of the few natural expansion routes for the Marsican brown bear and many other species that need to move in order to survive;
  • because authorizing a large infrastructure within a National Park would set a dangerous precedent, and at this moment in history, there are far too many reckless attacks on nature;
  • because the alternatives are there and our economic and production model, tremendously energy-intensive and based on reckless extractivism, cannot burden nature;
  • because the natural capital we want to defend can provide long-term prosperity for local communities that, some, are still trying to bamboozle with “jobs and widespread prosperity.”
